Our first Annual General Meeting of the year was held in January 18th. All members from form one to form six were involved, and we gave a warm welcome to our new form one members. Our teacher advisor gave a short speech on the importance of discipline, and the new committee members were announced soon after that. As usual, the rules and regulation were announced, and any new changes were updated.

Venue: First World Hotel, Genting Highlands

The start of the school holidays meant the start of the annual Music International Music and Arts Festival (MIMAF). After four months of practices, our band members were finally ready to face the competition. It was both an exciting and terrifying event at the same time; our members were very excited as they were able to stay in Genting Highlands with their friends for 5 days and 4 nights, while it was a nerve-racking experience for our newer members as this was their first competition. There were two songs that we presented during the competition: Concerto D’Amore and Ammerland. Our blood, sweat and tears paid off when we achieved Gold awards for the full band, brass ensemble and woodwinds ensemble categories. Our percussion ensemble also managed to score a Silver award.

The band members would like to thank our teacher advisor Ms Looi Ling Ling , the teachers who accompanied us throughout the whole event, our president, conductors, drum major and as always, all the helpers. We were glad that they were there to help us every step of the way.

Graduation season has come and gone amidst the soft rain falling outside. It was a day of the ending of a chapter, but also the beginning of a new one, and we would like to say congratulations to our F5 seniors for reaching this milestone.

During the graduation ceremony, we performed a medley of songs from the Disney classic “Aladdin” to entertain the graduates and their parents. Near the end of the ceremony, we also performed the song “Mayday Medley” as an encore with our F5s.

Lastly, we would like to wish all our graduating seniors a happy graduation and success in whichever endeavours they would pursue.

It was a busy training camp for us, as we practiced for both the upcoming Sports Day and indoor competition. It was also proving to be a new experience as our new form one members would be joining us for a dance performance while we performed our songs. Despite everything (shout out to the especially scorching sun), we kept our heads high and our eyes focused on our goals.

This was the 1st Asia Pacific Master Games in Penang, Malaysia which was held from 7-15 September. It was organised by the International Master Games Association (IMGA), and it was the first ever Masters Games for the Asia-Pacific region. Our school band was both glad and honoured to be invited to perform on the opening ceremony.

As this day approached, although we were nervous, we significantly tried our very best to present to the audiences the most melodious and harmonious tune of the band. However, what was truly important was still the bond between our band and the precious memories created. Lastly, we would like to thank the teachers and helpers for always being with us throughout this memorable event.

August 31st, 2018 by PCGHS Band

Date: 31 August 2018 (Friday)

Time: 6am – 12.30pm

Venue: Esplanade

August 31st is a significant day in many ways. For one, it’s a celebration of independence for our country. This year, our school band proudly took part in the annual Merdeka Parade. It was an overwhelming experience to be a part of the 150 contingents marching on that day, and we kept our heads high and our footsteps sharp. The song we performed while marching was titled  ‘Seni Teras Perpaduan’.

The road leading up to this day was not easy, but our members persevered even through the unpredictable weather and countless marching practices. Even then, on the actual day of the parade, it was raining heavily. But we didn’t lose hope, and soon enough, the weather cleared and we were allowed to march. The feeling of marching past the grandstands was exhilarating, and we left this event with many new memories to treasure.

As always, we’d like to sincerely thank all the ex-seniors who came back to lend us a hand, all the helpers who ran up and down for us, and our teacher advisor, Ms Looi Ling Ling, for her constant care and concern.

During the school holidays in August, we had our training camp that lasted for almost one week. The main objective of the training camp was to prepare for the 831 event and upcoming Asia Pacific Master Games Opening Ceremony. Although it was tough, our band members worked hard to improve their stamina and playing skills. After a few days of nonstop practice together, our relationship grew even closer, strengthening the bonds between each member.

Venue: B5 – B7 classrooms

The second annual General Meeting (AGM) of our school band was held on the 18th of August 2018 at the B5-B7 classrooms. All members attended the meeting. The purpose of this meeting was to let the band members interact to get to know each other better. This also marked the end of the services of our fellow Form 5 band members. On this day, the Form 5 seniors passed their jobs to the juniors to lead the band to a brighter future. During this AGM, all members were informed about the future events and the new rules of the band to ensure that the band is well-disciplined and behaved. We had an enjoyable moment together, thus making the bond between us stronger.
